The lecture Automation Technology 2 deepens the topics of the lecture Automatisierungstechnik and gives an insight into current research contents regarding the topics Industry 4.0, Cyber-Physical-Systems and Big Data, which are much discussed today. Increasing globalization and the conversion to customer-specific products with batch size one require innovative, new concepts to ensure that traditional mechanical and plant engineering remains competitive.

In this lecture current research topics are therefore presented, which are used from the development to the operating phase of automation systems. In addition to supporting the interdisciplinary design of automation systems, model-based development processes for the automatic generation of control software will be presented. Furthermore, communication architectures and current communication standards (e.g. OPC-UA) with a special focus on the real-time requirements of automation systems are part of the lecture. The methods and approaches of BigData for the analysis of large amounts of data are taught and their visualization using modern visualization methods, such as augmented reality and 3D visualization, are introduced, which should support people to understand and operate the increasingly complex systems (e.g. using training systems).
