Working environment and remuneration

In the dynamic team at the chair fml a cooperative and open working climate as well as mutual appreciation and recognition prevail. Family-friendly vacation and leaves of absences allow for extremely flexible and self-determined work.

At the beginning the employment and remuneration via the employment as a research assistant in the labor contract of the public Federal State in Bavaria as a 100% position (TV-L E13). The public collective bargaining also allows for a payment of Christmas money as well as capital-forming benefits. Usually you will obtain a limited contract of employment, whereby an employment time of 4-5 years is guaranteed with the possibility of a doctorate.


All research assistants at the chair work on various projects, most of which are publicly funded, with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. Information on the prerequisites for a doctorate at the fml, e.g. as a graduate of a university of applied sciences, can be found at the homepage of the TUM Graduate School.


Job description

As work tasks you can expect activities in the area of research and industrial projects as well as in teaching. Therefore, very good knowledge of the German and English language is necessary. Personal development is ensured by independent and autonomous project work in several research and industry projects, whereby internal coaching of the experienced project managers ensures technical and methodical support. The research projects are processed under assignment to one of the internal subject groups. At national and international congresses you will have the opportunity to present your results and to exchange ideas among colleagues. Your activities will enable you to establish initial contacts with industrial partners and to gain your first management qualification by supervising student assistants and student research projects. This gives you a high degree of creative freedom at the chair and allows you to actively shape your field of research.


Professional development

As a doctoral student, you automatically become a member of the TUM Graduate School, which is the comprehensive organizational format for doctoral studies at the Technical University of Munich and supports doctoral students in their research work in its faculty graduate centers and interdisciplinary thematic graduate centers. In annual target agreement meetings, concrete employee goals for personal development and the planned activities for the coming year are jointly defined. The seminars and continuing education measures offered by the TUM Graduate School or the internal continuing education programme of the Technical University of Munich (TUM horizons) can also be used for interdisciplinary continuing education and qualification (e.g. leadership, ethics seminars, etc.) of your personality. In addition, there is a mentoring program at the Technical University of Munich, which enables further exchange with people from the business world and provides new insights. For women, there is also a special career building program for female engineers.
