The focus of the SurfaLIB-project is the manufacturing of advanced electrodes for lithium-ion batteries by improving their characteristics using innovative surface modification processes. The qualities of the electrodes define many cell properties, such as capacity, energy density and cost. By modifying their surfaces, improvements in cycle life, fast charging capability and power delivery are expected. Among the processes investigated are laser structuring of electrodes and current collectors, plasma treatment and electrochemical processes.
