ERC Advanced Grant for BREATHE project

The human lung as a computer model: Prof. Wolfgang A. Wall receives the renowned EU grant for his research project at the Institute for Computational Mechanics, which could represent a decisive step towards personalized medicine.

With the Advanced Grants worth up to 2.5 million euros, the European Research Council honors excellent established scientists for top achievements - this year also Prof. Wolfgang A. Wall from the Institute for Computational Mechanics. His project "BREATHE - Unlocking vital mysteries in respiratory biomechanics" aims to develop previously unattainable comprehensive computer models of the lungs with decisive new developments and the combination of machine learning and physical modeling.

The European Research Council was established in 2007 by the European Union and is the main European funding organization for excellent frontier research.
